Organic Food Information

Where To Buy Organic Food

Organic food information is vital for natural health.

I think that most of us would be horrified to discover just how many chemicals and pesticides that we consume just from the food that we eat.

Food nutrition facts It's not as hard as it used to be for us to eat organic food. So the question naturally arises, where to buy organic food?

In its early conception, fresh produce-vegetables and fruits-was the most available type of organic food, and closely associated with organic farming.

It was often purchased directly from the growers, at farmer's markets, from on-farm stands, through specialty stores, and through organic food co-ops.

Now because consumer demand for organic foods has increased, supermarkets are rapidly replacing the direct farmer connection.

If you are anything like me, you have often bemoaned the fact, why are organic food prices so much more expensive than the other kind?

Natural organic food, since it is grown without synthetic pesticides or chemicals, is more labor-intensive.

Organic crop yields are often not as high as those grown under non-organic conditions, and fewer farmers use organic methods and sustainable agriculture practices; therefore the price of organically grown produce reflects the greater demands placed on the grower.

Advantage of organic food

What makes organic food better is the fact that the organic food supply is sustained by farmers who must grow produce for three years without the application of synthetic pesticides or chemicals.

The farm, its equipment, and any processing facilities are inspected by an independent agency unaffiliated with the grower, the processor or the vendor, and are then issued an organic food certificate from that agency certifying the farm's produce as "organic."

Fresh food is seasonal and highly perishable. Unprocessed animal products-organic meat, eggs, dairy-are less common.

Organic frozen food and organic processed products are now primarily purchased from supermarkets.
